"Doctor, Is My End In Sight?"

1. Name three or more things, scenarios, or ideas that come to mind from Dr. Vance's comments in this book. Be specific on details or ideas.

One scenario would be when in the cream of the crop section of the book where Mr. Tester doesn’t go back to the doctor to get his sugar tested he had tasting his urine every morning and he said there was no more sugar.

Another scenario is when Mr. Hard Shallow is having trouble swallowing with a poor functioning esophagus. He tells the doctor that “I have to masturate my food real well or it chokes me when I swaller.” My father has this problem some times so this is why I relate.

Also, the scenario when Mrs.Thompson had delivered her baby in her bedside receptacle when she had gotten up to answer her call of nature. What really funny about this is when my mother was pregnant with me her water broke in the toilet and she like to made it to the hospital. I was born just a few minutes after she arrived at the hospital. Needless to say I was early and almost born in the toilet.

2. Did Dr. Vance differ from other doctors, from doctor's you have worked with, in the way he listened to patients? Explain.

I think Dr. Vance was a rare find for a doctor. He seemed to really care for his patients and listen to there own diagnosis for what ever they may have had. I think he really enjoyed doing this too. Some doctors don’t want to listen to you and think you don’t know anything. So yes I think Dr. Vance differs from most doctors.

3. Many folks, especially folks not from this area, thinks that Dr. Vance condescends or disrespects the folks he discusses in this book. Tell, in detail, why you agree or disagree with this opinion.

I disagree with this because I think he just wanted to share his experiences with everyone. People are constantly making fun of the southern accents and living. He shows deep concern for these people all through the book.

4. If you had a chance to tell Dr. Vance's family ONE observation you gathered from the reading of this book, what would that observation be?

That Dr. Vance seemed to be a very intelligent doctor with great experience. He seemed to enjoy his job. He had respect for his patient even though they may have not known what they were talking about some of the time.
